Finding the perfect balance between work and life demands is not easy, but much needed.
Unfortunately, due to the global economy, most people have to work harder in order to afford what can be considered basic human needs such as housing.
Moreover, social media is also can put us under pressure, making us feel like we need to work harder than we have to just so we can be socially accepted. Or so that our efforts can be recognized. This leaves little to no time for other things.
Although not easy to achieve, we need to learn ways to manage all of our responsibilities and still take time for ourselves so we can recharge and lead more fulfilling lives.
We can never really ‘have it all,’ but we can try and below are some tips that can help.
Stop Being a Workaholic! 6 Tips to Help You Achieve a Healthier Lifestyle→
The reason why some of us spend more time on work is because when we're working, we're not as productive as we could be. It's easy to find yourself needing two hours to complete a task that requires 30 mins.
Because you have work targets and goals, you will then find yourself using your personal time to complete work.
Constantly review your productivity and keep track of how you spend time. This can help you figure out how to get the most out of your day and still have time to spend with loved ones.
I’m sure we've all heard of bosses who expect their employees to be available and reachable 24/7. In order to achieve a work-life balance, you need to be comfortable with saying ‘no’ even when it is hard to. Your work is just that, and you have a life that needs to be lived away from it.
When you’re on vacation or at home with your family, focus on that and have fun. Disconnect from work emails and enjoy the company of the people around you. Is cancelling a family event for work really worth it?
When you’re having challenges with something at work, don’t be scared to ask for help.
This will help you learn and improve yourself in the workplace. With the support of others, you can become more efficient at work, learn more along the way and likely get more done. Moreover, it also fosters a positive work environment which is much needed when trying to enjoy work.
I don’t know if this is a ‘me’ problem, but 24 hours often does not seem to be enough to fit in all the things I need to accomplish in a day. When you don't set aside time dedicated to something in particular, there is the potential of never getting to it.
Set aside dedicated time for specific things. For instance, when you plan your day, if you tell yourself that every night at 8pm you will read your children a book, you're more likely to do it than if you just go with the flow.
Plan for things with your family and friends. Have that in your calendar, so when you plan your work schedule, you don’t end up double booking yourself and having to choose.
Because we can’t seem to ever find enough time to do all the things we want to do, it might be worth doing some things that overlap, allowing us to tick two boxes off our to-do lists.
For instance, I wanted a hobby that allowed me to meet new people. I also wanted to swim more and improve my swimming, so I signed up for a class. This way, I practice my swimming and also meet new people.
Another example could be if you want to stay fit but also spend time with your partner, the two of you could consider signing up for the same gym and working out together.
